• MUS 100 Music Appreciation 3

    This course provides an elementary reading and listening knowledge of music. The rudiments of music will be illustrated through listening examples.

  • Review of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals; computing the average; ratio and portion; working with percent; application of all the above to problems involving profit and loss, simple and compound interest and applications, time card, payroll, cash and trade discounts, the invoice, markup, depreciation, small loans and installment purchasing, annuities; use of equations and formulas in the solution of business problems.

  • This course serves as an introduction to world literature ranging from the ancient Middle East to the contemporary world. Poetry, fiction, drama, and nonfiction prose from the literatures of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are emphasized. Prerequisite: ENG 101

  • This course introduces students to the basic terms, concepts and practices in practical computer use.In this course, students produce numerous short documents using a variety of software programs.The goal of the course is not to “teach the software,” but rather to make students comfortable enough with the computer in general that they can produce simple, yet professional, documents and continue the learning process with more focused courses.

  • SPE 201 Speech Communication

    Speech communication will teach students how to achieve clarity and confidence during the speeches they must give in college classes, in career settings, and in their communities, as well as information on how to perform necessary research and how to properly credit sources.


  • LAN 101 - Linguistics

    This course provides a detailed study of the nature and structure of language. Students explore the different approaches to languages in various disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, computer linguistics, and speech pathology. Students will study phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Students will also look at language acquisition and historical linguistics. (This course counts as a language requirement.)

  • This course continues the work of ENG 101; the basic principles and techniques of intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, and public communication in both written and oral forms are covered. Emphasis is placed on delivery styles and platform performance. It includes the preparation of a research paper from library sources. Students go through the process of planning, writing, and rewriting. Effective organization and significant content are emphasized.
